Even before the dispute, alas, most NHL hockey isn't played in
provinces anymore. Most is in the USA.
Without some significant cash injection from deep pockets, only the
Canadiens and Maple Leats will remain for long.
But, who the hell knows, maybe the NHL will fold and a new league will
emerge. ala WHA.
Also, I don't think the average joe union member has a whole lot of
sympathy for the NHLPA. It would be a hoot to watch though if labor
unions did demonstrate some fashion of solidarity for the NHLPA.
Thanks for your post.
Post by yosemite samAlso in at least two provinces, it is illegal to use replacement workersso
they would have to play at least two teams short.
The owners arent stupid, they know who butters their bread. And they don't
want to piss off the ordinary j oe union worker who spends his saturday
nights watching hockey when there is some to watch.
Post by AchmuudPost by w***@yahoo.comWell, um....they couldn't this year but they have held it out as a
possibility they might next year. But no one is going to pay NHL
ticket prices to see AHL players. As Mark McGwire would say.....no way
José!
Agreed.
But the owners wouldn't need to charge NHL ticket prices since they
would not have anywhere near the salary expenditures.
With minor league players, the NHL would not receive much in the way of
television contracts either.
But I still think, if minor league players were used, the NHLPA would
cave quickly.
